The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has warned officers and men of the Command against misconduct, indiscipline and other forms of unprofessional conduct, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force will no longer tolerate acts capable of tarnishing its image.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the Commissioner gave the warning during a strategic briefing with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders and other senior officers across the state.
CP Adekimi, while reiterating the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the era of impunity in the Force was over, emphasizing that every officer must uphold the highest standards of integrity, discipline and professionalism.
He urged personnel to be mindful of their actions, utterances and general conduct while carrying out their duties, noting that the widespread use of digital technology and social media has placed police officers under constant public scrutiny.
The Police Commissioner warned that officers found engaging in extortion, harassment, abuse of authority, incivility or any act capable of bringing the Force into disrepute would face strict disciplinary action in accordance with police regulations.
CP Adekimi also educated officers on the Force’s Social Media Policy, cautioning against irresponsible online behaviour, unauthorized disclosure of official information and actions that could compromise operational security or damage the reputation of the Police.
As part of efforts to strengthen community policing, he directed all Divisional Police Officers to intensify engagement with religious leaders, school proprietors, principals and other critical stakeholders to improve security around places of worship, schools and other vulnerable public facilities.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led policing and community partnership, assuring residents of Kwara State of continued protection of lives and property as well as strict enforcement of discipline among police personnel.
