The Kwara State Police Command has rescued the Onigbesi of Igbesi, His Royal Highness Oba Moses Oyinloye Omotayo, and two other kidnap victims following a security operation around the Elerin/Ijomu-Oro axis of the state.
The victims were reportedly abducted at Igbesi on August 22, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the rescue operation underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and combating criminal activities across the state.
She said the operation commenced after a vigilante operative, identified as Abdul, reported at about 10 a.m. at the Oro Police Station that one of his colleagues had sustained a gunshot injury while operating in the bush around Elerin/Ijomu-Oro.
According to her, the Divisional Police Officer subsequently led a combined team of police personnel, military operatives and vigilantes to the area.
She said the suspected kidnappers opened fire on sighting the security team, resulting in an exchange of gunfire during which one of the suspects was neutralised, while others fled into the surrounding terrain.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi said the security team pursued the fleeing suspects and subsequently rescued the Onigbesi of Igbesi and the two other victims, identified as Maryam Abubakar and Aisha Ilyasu.
She added that the victims were immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and are now safe.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, commended the security personnel for their gallantry and professionalism.
He assured residents that the Command would intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while urging members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
