Persons with disabilities in Kwara State have called for inclusive arrangements in the forthcoming 2026 civil service promotion examinations, urging the government to provide necessary support for candidates across different disability groups.
The call was made during an advocacy visit by the leadership of the Nigerian Association of the Blind, Kwara State Chapter, led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Needs, Habeeb Soliu Babaoloye, to the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission in Ilorin.
The delegation said the visit was aimed at ensuring the seamless inclusion of persons with disabilities in the computer-based tests scheduled for the 2026 promotion exercise within the state civil service.
Earlier, Chairman of the Nigerian Association of the Blind in Kwara State, Comrade Akeem Lawal, stressed the need for special considerations for visually impaired candidates, noting that the use of screen readers during examinations requires additional time compared to sighted candidates.
Lawal also advocated accessible examination centres for physically challenged candidates, special provisions for persons with albinism, and the deployment of sign language interpreters for candidates with hearing impairments.
Responding, Chairman of the Kwara State Civil Service Commission, Hajia Habeebat Yusuf, commended the delegation for the timely advocacy and assured them of the commission’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all qualified civil servants.
Hajia Yusuf also stated that that directives would be sent to ministries, departments and agencies to compile data on civil servants with disabilities expected to participate in the 2026 promotion exercise to ensure adequate preparations for their needs.
