The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, says women have remained central to the administration’s governance and political success, assuring that their contributions will continue to receive priority.
Prince Fagbemi stated this at a programme organised by the SYD Kwara South Unique Women Grassroots Mobilisation, with the theme, “The Importance of Women in Politics.”
He said women and youths had been given greater opportunities and preference under the APC-led administration, describing women as key stakeholders in governance and grassroots mobilisation.
The APC Chairman also clarified that the party’s ongoing visits across the senatorial districts are not campaign activities, but thank-you visits to appreciate the people for their support and commitment to the party.
Prince Fagbemi commended the women for mobilising themselves for the programme and urged them to remain united, love and support one another, saying unity among the women would contribute significantly to the progress and success of the party and Kwara State.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti, Irepodun and Isin Federal Constituency, Mrs Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi, says the large turnout of women at the party’s programme demonstrates their readiness to vote for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Mrs Oyeyemi said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had provided women with the platform to contribute meaningfully to governance and development, describing them as integral to the progress of the state.
She urged the women to mobilise other women at the ward level, stressing that the APC remains an inclusive government committed to giving women greater opportunities to participate in politics and governance.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Vice Chairperson, Isin Local Government and Coordinator of SYD Kwara South Unique Women Grassroots Mobilisation, Mrs Ganiyat Omolara Sanni called on women to take active and meaningful roles in politics beyond election periods.
Mrs Ganiyat Sanni said that women have made significant contributions to families, communities and the nation, but remain inadequately represented in political decision-making and leadership positions.
The coordinator urged women to participate in political discussions, understand government policies, support credible and competent women seeking elective and appointive positions, and mentor younger women for leadership.
She commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support for women in politics, while appreciating political leaders, stakeholders and supporters for contributing to the success of the programme.
In a goodwill message, Mr. Moshood Alaka described women’s participation in politics as an investment in the development of the nation.
Mr Alaka commended the women’s group for organising themselves and actively participating in political activities.
He appealed to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to consider a woman as the state’s Deputy Governor, saying women deserve greater representation in leadership.
The Development Officer of Patigi Local Government Area, Hajia Fati Jiya thanked Kwara State Government for providing women with opportunities to serve in the state cabinet.
Fati Jiya urged women to mobilise voters across their wards and support the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections, saying such support would promote the overall interests and welfare of women.
Also, a member of the group, Hajia Falilat Mohammed, said more than two thousand women, including widows, farmers, youths, students and other less privileged persons, had benefited from various empowerment initiatives of the group.
In a keynote address, the Executive Director, Women Environment and Youth Development Initiative, Mrs Tosin Apiriola-Ajayi called for greater participation of women in political decision-making processes.
Apiriola-Ajayi said women should move beyond being mobilised to attend rallies and deliver votes, stressing the need for them to participate in political structures, seek leadership positions and influence policies affecting their communities.
She identified inadequate resources, limited access to political networks, gender stereotypes, intimidation and domestic responsibilities as some of the barriers hindering women’s political participation, urging political organisations to create genuine opportunities for women to lead and make decisions.
The event was attended by women across seven local government areas of Kwara South Senatorial District – Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, Offa, Oke-Ero, and Oyun.
