The Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara Area Command, has intensified its crackdown on smuggling with the public display of contraband goods, over 230 jerrycans of petrol, cannabis, and other hard drugs intercepted from smugglers operating within the command’s area of responsibility.

At the command headquarters in Ilorin, the Acting Area Controller, Najeem Ogundeyi, said the total value of the seizures is over three billion naira in the last three months.

The Customs boss said the seizures were made possible through intelligence-driven operations and coordinated patrols carried out by officers across border communities and known smuggling routes within Kwara State and adjoining areas.

The command also handed over the seized cannabis to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The Area Controller warned smugglers and economic saboteurs to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the command would continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement operations across the region.

Harmony FM reports that the occasion also featured the presentation of awards and commendations to deserving Customs personnel who distinguished themselves through exceptional service, bravery, and dedication in anti-smuggling operations.
