
One Hundred teachers from six selected local government areas of Kwara state are currently undergoing training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation first and other pre hospital skills care organized by Health Emergency initiative training.
Speaking during the training programme at Queen Elizabeth Secondary in Ilorin, the Executive Director of Health Emergency Initiative, HEI, Mr Paschal Achuinine, said each trained teacher is expected to train 200 students within the next 90 days to ensure a widespread acquisition of first aid skills.
Mr Achuinine said the organisation has secured approval from the Kwara State Ministry of Education to integrate the training into the secondary school curriculum.
Recognizing that Emergencies occur daily, Mr Achuinine noted that the organization aimed to shift the focus from bystanders taking pictures at accident scenes to actively providing help.
The Director of the organization stressed that the event which is sponsored by Total Energies are expected to equip the participants with first aid skills on emergencies range from road traffic accidents, poisoning, snakebites, building collapse and other critical situations that require immediate intervention before victims are taking to hospitals.
Also speaking, the Director of School Services at the Ministry of Education and Human Development, Mrs Abidoye Oluropo emphasized the importance of the training, stating that it would enable students to apply their knowledge in emergencies to save lives.
Mrs Oluropo added that the ministry granted approval to the organizing body, recognizing the significant benefits the training will provide to society.
The participants are of the view that the training has helped teachers to understand how they can assist people in terms of emergency case.
