The race for the 2027 Kwara State governorship took a significant turn this week as the Kwara Integrity Women Association (KIWA) formally called upon world-renowned neurosurgeon and academic, Prof. Wale Sulaiman, to declare his interest in the state’s top political office.

At a press briefing in Ilorin, the chairperson of the Association, Alhaja Aminat Folake Yusuf said the call reflected the collective yearning of women across Kwara State for purposeful, inclusive and visionary leadership that can effectively address the socio-economic challenges confronting the state.

Alhaja Aminat explained that their endorsement of Professor Sulaiman was driven by deep concern for the future of their children and the need to protect and consolidate the developmental foundation laid by the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON.

According to her, the realities facing families across the state, particularly in healthcare delivery, road infrastructure, education, security, youth empowerment and job creation, make continuity of purposeful governance imperative for a stable and prosperous future.

She described Prof. Sulaiman as a tested administrator, technocrat and philanthropist whose leadership style is rooted in accountability, innovation and service to humanity.

The chairperson noted that his track record in both the public and private sectors distinguishes him as a credible contender for the state’s top political office.

KIWA highlighted Professor Sulaiman’s extensive international experience, particularly in the United States, where he has held senior executive positions in the healthcare sector.

According to the group, his leadership transformed struggling medical institutions into globally respected centres of excellence, involving the management of complex systems and budgets running into hundreds of millions of dollars.

Alhaja Aminat Folake Yusuf therefore urged the party stakeholders, opinion leaders and well-meaning citizens of Kwara to encourage the renowned neurosurgeon to heed the call, expressing optimism that his leadership would usher in a more inclusive, secure and prosperous Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
