Ahead of the 2027 general elections, four local government chairmen in Kwara Central Senatorial District have appealed to Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to contest for the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appeal was made at a press conference in Ilorin attended by political office holders, including members of the executive and legislative arms at the local government level, as well as prominent chieftains of the ruling APC from across Kwara Central.

The chairmen of Asa, Ilorin South, Ilorin East and Ilorin West local government areas — Alhaji Yahaya Shehu Amosa, Abdulmajeed Nuhu Podo, Lukman Olayinka Garuba Agbelere, and Abdulrahman Shehu Ladan — said the governor’s performance in office justifies their call for him to represent the district at the National Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of Asa Local Government, Amosa, said Governor AbdulRazaq’s developmental strides are evident across all sectors, describing his administration as impactful and people-oriented.

He recalled the “O to Ge” political movement that brought the governor to power in 2019, noting that its promise of change has been fulfilled through tangible achievements in governance.

Amosa urged the governor not to ignore the growing calls from constituents to further serve at the national level, commending his administration for regular payment of salaries and prompt promotion of workers.

He highlighted key achievements in the education and health sectors, including the construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of furniture, establishment of basic healthcare centres, procurement of modern medical equipment, and recruitment of health personnel.

The council boss also cited infrastructure development such as road construction, bridges, and improved rural connectivity, which he said has enhanced access to markets and economic opportunities.

According to him, the administration has also delivered landmark projects, including the Innovation Hub, Sugar Film Factory, new court complexes, an international conference centre with a five-star hotel, the KWIRS headquarters, and the ongoing renovation of Kwara Hotels.

He added that the government has boosted commerce and improved electricity supply through the connection of communities to the national grid and provision of transformers.

Amosa said the widespread calls for the governor to contest the senatorial seat reflect the people’s desire for continuity, stressing that “nature abhors a vacuum.”

“We have come together from across Kwara Central to urge His Excellency to heed the clarion call and make himself available to serve the people of the district at the National Assembly,” he said.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, praised the governor for promoting women’s inclusion in governance and empowering local communities.

“He has done a lot for women in this state. We are confident that, if given this opportunity, he will do even more,” she said.

The Deputy Whip of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mariam Yusuf Aladi, described the governor’s performance in key sectors as commendable, urging him to consider the senatorial bid to sustain his legacy.

Similarly, a former Personal Assistant (Political) to a past governor, Alhaji Hassan Gegele, said AbdulRazaq has surpassed many of his predecessors in project execution.

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Shehu Abdulraheem Adaramaja, also called on the governor to join the race, citing his achievements and contributions to attracting federal projects to the state.

He noted that the governor facilitated key projects such as the Eiyenkorin–Afon–Okeso–Ojoku–Offa Road and disclosed plans to construct a flyover at Oko-Olowo in Ilorin to reduce road accidents.

Adaramaja added that the administration has made significant investments in basic education across the 52 wards in Kwara Central, including classroom construction and renovation, provision of water and sanitation facilities, and capacity building for teachers.

“We appeal to the governor to consider this call and contest for the Kwara Central senatorial seat.

He has done remarkably well and deserves even greater responsibility,” he said.
