About fifty Rural Farmers, Cooperatives and Local Authorities in Kwara State have been trained on digital Financial Solutions for easy and secured business transactions by Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

The participants from the three piloting Local Government Areas of the State comprising Moro, Asa and Ifelodun were trained at a One – Day Digital Financial Solutions Training for Sustainable Agriculture to Adapt to Climate Change held at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

The Host and DIGISOL Coordinator, Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, Dr. Tajudeen Ajala explained that the training was at the instance of European Unions’ identification of transactions challenges confronting local farmers, with the aim of making their dealings with customers easier, hence the need to embrace it.

In a presentation titled, POS Machine and Types, as a Means of Digital Financial Solution – Practical Approach, Mr. Alabi Abeebullah, of Al-Hikmah Microfinance Bank, said Point Of Sale machine provide means for easy transactions, as it saves farmers the risk of going about with large amount of money and quick business transactions.

Mr. Abeebullah stated that POS, as a means of Digital Financial Solution will provide rural farmers with access to financial services such as savings, receive of payments and transfer of money without the need for physical bank visits.

Also, a Financial Expert, Mrs. Balogun Oyeniyi Motunrayo, who was represented by Ms. Ruqayyat trained participants on the Use of Different Wallets such as Moniepoint and Opay as a means of Digital Financial Solution.

Mrs. Balogun, who highlighted the benefits of Wallets, stressed that cyber attack, poor Internet connectivity and data privacy are among challenges facing the use of wallets.

She pointed at the use of biometric authentication and network improvement by service providers as among ways to solve the challenges.

Earlier, the Chief Host and Vice Chancellor Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Noah Yusuf commended the European Union and the DigiSol Project team for an impactful programme, which he said was not only timely but also poised to solve financial services challenges confronting local farmers.

In a virtual contribution, the Vice Chancellor of University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, Prof. Christopher Eze emphasized the crucial need for digital Financial Solutions at a time like this in the nation’s economy as it saves farmers the stress of movement for financial transactions.

Some of the participants praised the organizers and called for its practical training at each beneficiaries Local Government Areas.

The DIGISOL project is an initiative aimed at improving agriculture in Nigeria by equipping rural farmers with digital tools and training in a bid to adapt to climate change while promoting digital inclusion which is driven by the consortium comprising the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, (UAES), Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin (HUI), and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
