
The 2025 NYSC/ Corps Employers’ Workshop held across the nation with the NYSC management, Corps employers and Youth Corps Members, coming together to chart a way forward for a better national service delivery and more cordial relationship.
In Kwara State, the event featured insightful discussions and lectures, including a keynote address and engagement of resources persons.
The workshop with the theme: ‘Deepening the NYSC/ Corps Employers’ Working Relationship for Optimal Performance’, also featured a lecture titled: ‘The Corps Employer as a Critical Stakeholder in Achieving the NYSC Mandate in our Contemporary World’.

In a message to the workshop, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General, Olakunle Nafiu, noted that the corps employer has remained one of the key stakeholders of the NYSC in achieving its aims and objectives since inception.
The NYSC Director General appreciated the corps members employers and called for a stronger bond and robust working relationship through routine meeting for a thorough evaluation and realignment.
“In this light, I wish to emphasize that the Corps employer has remained one of our key stakeholders in achieving our aims and objectives since inception of the Scheme.
“The scheme sincerely acknowledges the critical role of the Corps employer as a driving force for the successful implementation of our programmes, activities and polices,” he said.
The Coordinator of the NYSC in Kwara State, Mr Olaoluwa Onifade, said the platform aimed to create a better and more solid understanding between the scheme and Corps Employers.

The Coordinator said issue of underutilization, self induced rejection, welfare and proper orientation for the youth would be properly addressed.
“The theme is apt, as it will address the issue of Corps underutilization. Furthermore, Year 2025 Corps employers workshop is not only a platform for the exchange of ideas but a suitable avenue for the improvement of the quality of service delivery both on the part of the NYSC, Corps Employers and other stakeholders towards the realization of the goals and objectives of the NYSC in the task of Nation Building”.
Mr Yusuf Amuda, Principal of Government Junior Secondary School, Aboto Oja in Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State, admitted that corps members have been useful as teachers, especially in the rural areas.
The School Principal, however, emphasized the need for proper orientation for the corps members before being posted to their places of primary assignment, especially about the use of phones.
One of the resource persons at the programme, Mr James Adeola, said employers as end users of corps manpower must always seek to deepen relationship with the scheme and should be abreast of some of the NYSC policies as it affects them.
Serving Corps members, Okeoghene Onota and Sheriff Adeyemi, expressed hope that the workshop would further help employers to understand the NYSC values as it affects how the youths on national assignment should be treated.
Other issue deliberated upon included process of applying for services of Corps Members, delay in issuance of clearance, security and assistance of the youth for community development Service activities.
