The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, in collaboration with Multicline Limited, has organized a career counseling workshop for Heads of Departments (HODs) and Deputy Registrars of the institution.
The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of academic leaders to effectively mentor and guide students.
In his opening remarks, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, described the training as a “train-the-trainer” programme, stressing the vital role of HODs and Deputy Registrars in shaping the academic and moral development of students.
Dr Abdul Jimoh noted that the rising involvement of young people in social vices underscores the need for proper mentorship, adding that students must be guided to embrace discipline and integrity as future leaders.
“Students today face numerous challenges that can lead them down the wrong path. As future leaders, it is imperative that our youths receive the guidance they need to uphold the integrity of the mantle of leadership that will one day be handed to them,” the Rector said.

Dr. Abdul disclosed that the workshop, sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is in line with the mandate of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which requires tertiary institutions to establish guidance and counseling units.
He explained that the programme marks a preparatory step toward setting up such a unit in the Polytechnic.
The event featured a keynote lecture by Professor Lasiele Yahaya on “The Role of Institutional Administrators and Academics in Promoting Effective Delivery of Guidance and Counseling Services to Students.”
Prof Yahaya offered practical strategies to help administrators implement mentorship and counseling services across their departments.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in enhancing their ability to support students.
