The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has commended the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) for organizing a capacity-building workshop for the institution’s Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Coordinators.
The training, held at the Polytechnic Auditorium, focused on enhancing effective administration and supervision of SIWES students in line with 21st-century demands.
Represented by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. (Mrs.) Felicia Olabisi Awolola, the Rector said the workshop would equip SIWES Coordinators with the necessary knowledge and skills to guide and support students during their four-month industrial attachment.
He described the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening the SIWES programme and preparing students to become productive contributors to the nation’s economy.
Dr. Abdul Jimoh urged participants to take the training seriously to ensure maximum impact, while assuring them of the management’s continuous support for the SIWES Unit.

In her remarks, the Ilorin Area Manager of ITF, Mrs. Temitayo Quadri, explained that the training was designed to foster self-reliance and entrepreneurial capacity among undergraduates. She reaffirmed ITF’s commitment to equipping higher institutions with the tools required to produce globally competitive graduates.
According to her, ITF’s strategic focus is to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for modern workplace challenges.
Earlier, the Director of the SIWES Unit, Engr. Jimoh Ahmed, appreciated the Polytechnic’s management for its consistent support.
He urged participants to maximize the training opportunity to refine their supervisory roles in shaping the next generation of professionals.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the Rector, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, in recognition of his unwavering commitment to education and practical training at the Polytechnic.
