Old students across various schools in the country have been urged to always give back to their alma mater as a way of promoting quality education and community development.

The Executive Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government, Alhaji Majeed Podo, made the call during the commissioning of a newly renovated and fully equipped science laboratory at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Okekere, Ilorin, facilitated by the Kazeem Adeoye Foundation

Alhaji Podo commended the Foundation for its laudable initiative, describing it as a noble example worthy of emulation.

He noted that the renovation and equipping of the laboratory reflected a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility toward one’s roots.

In her welcome address, the Principal of GDSS Okekere, Hajia Ahmed S.A. Tejidini, expressed profound appreciation to the Kazeem Adeoye Foundation for financing the renovation and furnishing of the laboratory.

She described the gesture as “a timely investment in the future of children, the future scientists, doctors, engineers, and innovators of the state and nation at large.”

Hajia Tejidini explained that the foundation, led by Engineer Kazeem Adeoye, an alumnus of the school, not only transformed the physical structure of the laboratory but also provided modern scientific equipment essential for effective teaching and learning.

She further noted that the Foundation had earlier paid NECO examination fees for ten SS3 students during the 2024/2025 academic session, totaling ₦400,000, as part of its support for indigent students.

Speaking on the motivation behind the gesture, the Founder of the, Engineer Kazeem Adeoye said his unpleasant experience as a student of the school inspired him to act.

Engineer Adeoye explained that when he was a student of the school, they had committed and qualified teachers but lacked basic laboratory equipment.

He recalled that during their WAEC examinations, they had to borrow science apparatus from other schools.

Engineer Adeoye advised students to remain committed to their studies and make judicious use of the modern WAEC-standard apparatus provided for them, emphasizing that quality learning requires dedication and discipline.

Several old students of the School supported the Foundation in organizing the commissioning ceremony, which drew the attention of education stakeholders and community leaders.
