Kwara State Government has begun a four-day training for budget, finance, and audit officers from the 16 Local Government Areas to enhance transparency and accountability.

The workshop, organized under the World Bank-supported HOPE Project, focuses on budgeting standards, the National Chart of Accounts, and International Public Sector Accounting Standards.

Declaring the training open, the State Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, said the initiative reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to strengthening governance and improving service delivery across all tiers of government.

World Bank consultant, Dr. Paul Adepelumi, explained that the exercise will help local councils meet international benchmarks on financial reporting and ensure timely publication of their budgets online.

Some local government Chairmen, who attended the training, commended the state government for creating the platform, promising to implement the lessons learned to promote transparency and fiscal discipline.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of laptops to participants to aid practical learning and enhance record keeping in their respective councils.
