Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has presented a over Six Hundred and Forty-four Billion Naira Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, with strong emphasis on completion of ongoing projects.

Presenting the budget, Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed that about 65.98 per cent of the proposal is allocated to capital expenditure, while 34.02 per cent is for recurrent spending.

He said the approach reflects the administration’s resolve to consolidate achievements and drive sustained economic growth.

Governor AbdulRazaq explained that the 2026 fiscal plan will focus on completing existing infrastructure projects, while initiating new ones that align with the strategic needs of the state, particularly in security, economic development, and job creation.

He noted that funds have been earmarked for acquisition of security hardware, vehicles, and technology to strengthen the state’s response to kidnapping and other criminal activities, while also positioning Kwara as a leading service, creative, and technology-driven economy in Northern Nigeria.

The Governor announced improved welfare measures, including an adjustment to medical officers’ salaries and the introduction of a Teachers Salary Allowance, TSA, from 2026, aimed at attracting and retaining skilled professionals in the education sector.

He added that major investments will continue in agriculture, including the Alfalfa Estate project, to boost food security, reduce herder-farmer conflicts, and empower thousands of residents across agricultural value chains.

Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted achievements recorded in the outgoing year, including completion of 38 roads, construction of additional interlock access roads, delivery of major projects such as the Innovation Hub, Kwara Hotel, International Conference Centre, health facilities, educational institutions, and expanded investments in water, health, and education sectors.

He urged lawmakers to expedite legislative consideration of the budget, describing the 2026 proposal as critical to the administration’s legacy of inclusive growth and development.

Earlier, Speaker of the House, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, commended the Governor for fiscal discipline, transparency, respect for separation of powers, and visible projects across the state.

He assured that the House would give the proposal prompt and thorough consideration.

The budget session was witnessed by top government officials, traditional rulers, lawmakers, and party leaders.
