The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a logistics network allegedly supplying food and other essential items to bandits and criminal groups operating in remote parts of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the suspect was apprehended over his alleged involvement in transporting supplies to criminal elements hiding in forests and other isolated locations across Kwara State.
According to the statement, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested the suspect in Ilorin following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance operations.
The police said large quantities of assorted cigarette brands and food items, believed to be part of a logistics chain supporting criminal groups, were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
Investigators also recovered photographs from the suspect’s mobile phone allegedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and seated on a Bajaj motorcycle, a development the police said further strengthened intelligence linking him to suspected criminal networks.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the network, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal groups and disrupting the support structures that sustain their activities across the state.
