The Kwara State Police Command has arrested eight suspected cultists and recovered firearms and other dangerous weapons during a coordinated operation across parts of Ilorin metropolis.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement, noting that operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit, working in collaboration with other tactical teams, acted on credible intelligence to raid a suspected cultist hideout in the Akuo and Fagba areas of Ilorin.

According to the statement, the operation resulted in the arrest of eight suspects identified as Ismail Sodiq, Ibrahim Saheed, Feyikemi Odoje, Ishola Faisat, Abubakar Zainab, Azeez Olarenwaju, Soliu Ibrahim, and Abdulbasit Abdulkadir.

Items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated pistols, one pump-action shotgun, two cut-to-size shotguns, twenty-five expended cartridges, and other dangerous weapons believed to have been used for criminal activities.

The Police Command said the arrests and recoveries underscore its determination to combat cultism and other violent crimes, stressing that efforts are being intensified to ensure the safety and security of residents across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, attributed the success of the operation to the intelligence-led policing strategy championed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the prosecution of all suspects found culpable.
