
The Kwara State Polytechnic 2025 Rector’s Cup final delivered a nail-biting finish, with the Accountancy department emerging victorious over Mass Communication in a tense penalty shootout.
After a goalless 30-minute regulation match, both teams showcased impressive defensive displays, leaving the outcome hanging in the balance until the final penalty.
The match, a closely fought contest throughout, saw both sides vying for the coveted Rector’s Cup.

Neither team could break the deadlock despite numerous attempts on goal, resulting in a dramatic penalty shootout.
The tension was palpable as each penalty was taken, with both goalkeepers making impressive saves before Accountancy finally sealed the win with their fifth successful penalty.
The Rector, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, in his post-match address, commended both teams for their exceptional sportsmanship and dedication.

He singled out the Mass Communication department for displaying the essence of sportsmanship, acknowledging their unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
He emphasized the importance of such events in nurturing young talent and cultivating a sense of community among students, regardless of their cultural backgrounds.
“The annual Rector’s Cup is aimed at catching them young, fostering teamwork, and developing leadership skills that go beyond the classroom,” he added.
As the winning team lifted the Rector’s Cup, cheers erupted from their supporters, celebrating not just their victory but the friendships and memories forged during the tournament.
The 2025 Rector’s Cup serves as a testament to the Polytechnic’s commitment to promoting sports as a vital aspect of student life and engagement.
