A Non-Governmental Organization, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, MMWGN, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the on-going move by the Sokoto State Government to amend the Sokoto Emirate Council Laws.

According to the Group, the amendment could whittle down the powers of Sultan of Sokoto and degrade the Sultanate Council.

The Group, in a press release issued in Abuja by it National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi argued that the Sultan has the right to appoint District Heads, Village Heads and all Traditional Title Holders in Sokoto State.

It stressed that any attempt to amend the law and subject such rights to the approval of Sokoto State Government would politicized the Sokoto Emirate Council and affect the enviable tradition of the people of Sokoto State.

The Media Group therefore called on the Former Governor of the State, Senator Aliyu Wammako to also intervene to forestall religious, political and security tensions in the country.
