
Normalcy has been returned in Lafiagi, headquarters of Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State following the deployment of security personnel by the police and the army.
Protesters, mostly the youth, were reported to have embarked on protest demanding urgent intervention of the government and other authorities on the worsening insecurity situation in the area.
During the protest, the NDLEA office was set ablaze while some parts of the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi was vandalised.
Following the tensions, a government security delegation comprising the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Alhaji Muhyideen Aliu, visited the community.

The Senior Special Assistant, Alhaji Muhyideen Aliu explained that the protest was related to recent arrests of suspected drug dealers in which the protesters launch an attack on the NDLEA office, burnt three vehicles, motorcycles, and released three suspects, as well as carted away substances seized from the dealers.
Alhaji Muhyideen Aliu, who condemned the development, noted that the Army and other security forces have restore calm in Lafiagi town.
He thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the quick intervention and stressed the need for every citizen of Lafiagi to embrace dialogue, maintain peace and order in the overall interest of the community.
The Senior Special Assistant cautioned people against taking laws into their own hands and always report suspicious movements around them to relevant security agents.
Meanwhile, Radio Nigeria gathered that no life was lost in the protests.
