
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has rejoiced with Muslim Ummah across the nation on the 1447 AH Islamic year.
In a statement by the Press Secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari described Hijrah as the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca to Yathrib (Medina) upon invitation in order to escape persecution.
He added that, “After arriving, the Holy Prophet negotiated the Constitution of Medina with the local clans, thereby establishing the Muslim community as a socio-political entity for the first time.”
He urged Muslim Ummah to explore the opportunity of Hijrah celebration which marks the beginning of another year in the Islamic calendar to extend love and forgiveness to their fellow human-beings and extend kindness to the downtrodden in the society.
The monarch also sued for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians irrespective of their social and political affiliations adding that Islam is a religion of peace as encapsulated in the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He however commended the National Hijrah Islamic Organization in Kwara State under the leadership of Prof Yusuf ‘Lanre Badmos, for their commitments towards sustaining the age-long Hijrah celebration tradition in the state.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari also thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for declaring Thursday 1st Muharram 1447 AH as work free day in Kwara State to enable workers to celebrate with their families.
He therefore urged Muslim leaders to endevour to always preach peace, love, unity and harmony as the major recipes for growth and development at all times.
