Nigerian leaders have been called to emulate the leadership qualities of late General Murtala Ramat Muhammad through commitment and selfless service to the nation.

The Muslims Media Watch Group of Nigeria made the call in a message to commemorate the 49 years of the demise of General Murtala Ramat Muhammad.

The statement issued by the National Coordinator of the Group, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi described the late Murtala who was assassinated in February 13, 1976 as the outstanding leader whose qualities such as integrity, transparency and accountability has not been marched in the history of Nigeria.

The Muslims Media Watch Group highlighted some of the late Murtala Ramat Muhammad achievements to include establishment of Abuja as the new Nation’s Capital, Creation of New States, enforcement of discipline in all facets of Nigerian life.

The group urged leaders at all levels to emulate him while Nigerians should also support the leaders to salvage the country from poverty, hunger and disease as well as corruption.

The statement prays to God to continue to guard and guide wife of the late Head of State, Mrs Ajoke Muhammad and his daughter Aisha Muhammad, calling on the government to celebrate Murtala’s life annually by instituting a programme in his remembrance.
