Gwanara Emirate in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State has celebrated this year’s annual Gaani Festival amid a peaceful and colourful atmosphere.
The ancient town witnessed a large turnout of dignitaries and visitors from within and outside the country who gathered to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the people.

The Gaani Festival is a significant cultural event that brings together the people of Baruten to promote unity, preserve their heritage and strengthen peaceful coexistence.
The celebration featured traditional displays, cultural performances and other activities aimed at preserving the history, customs and traditions of the community.

Speaking shortly after the event, the Emir of Gwanara, Alhaji Abdullahi Sabi Idris, Kotokogi the Second, called on the people of Baruten to continue to promote unity and peaceful coexistence in the area.
Alhaji Sabi Idris appreciated the dignitaries and other guests who attended the festival, describing their presence as a demonstration of support for the people and cultural heritage of Gwanara.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC governorship candidate, Engineer Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, expressed gratitude to God for the successful celebration of the annual Gaani Festival.
The Speaker, who was received by a large crowd chanting his name and the slogan “2027 SYD”, congratulated the sons and daughters of Gwanara Emirate on the occasion.

Dressed in traditional attire, Engineer Salihu Yakubu-Danladi expressed appreciation to the dignitaries and guests who graced the celebration.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Baruten Local Government Area, Alhaji Isa Jibril, highlighted the significance of the Gaani Festival to the people of Baruten.

Alhaji Isa Jibril commended the royal fathers and people of Baruten for preserving the cultural heritage of the land and urged them to continue to support the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The event was attended by government officials and traditional rulers, including the Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Abubakar Idris Kperogi-Afon; the Okere of Saki Land, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi; the Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, Professor Halidu Abubakar; and the Apaki of Parakou in the Republic of Benin.
