Governments at all levels have been urged to ensure equitable distribution of resources in the interest of peace and stability.
Vice Chancellor, Alhikmah University, Ilorin, Professor Noah Yusuf stated this at a workshop organised by the National Orientation Agency, NOA in partnership with member representing Ilorin-East and Ilorin-South at the National Assembly, Yinka Aluko, in Ilorin.
Professor Yusuf, represented by the Acting Director, Center for Peace and Strategic Studies, Alhikma University, Dr Alao Adekola explained that hunger occasioned by scarce resources, constitutes security threat in every society.
He also identified protection of fundamental human rights of people, free flow of information, low level of corruption and sound business environment as factors necessary for peace to thrive.
The Vice Chancellor, Alhikmah University, added that traditional rulers and security agencies should continue to live up to their responsibilities as custodians of peace.
Earlier, the Director General, National Orientation Agency, Dr Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by the State Coordinator, Dr Olusegun Adeyemi, said that peace and security are intertwined, hence one cannot exist without the other.
Dr Issa-Onilu, who emphasized the need for traditional rulers and politicians to avoid misuse of their followers, stated that NOA would engage in regular sensitization of stakeholders.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, identified drug abuse amongst youths as a major threat to security and stressed the need for parents to be vigilant.
Mr Olaiya also cautioned residents against violence ahead of this Saturday’s Local Council elections.

In a remark, Yinka Aluko commended the people of his constituent for their peaceful dispositions so far and called for their continued support to make Kwara great.
In separate goodwill messages, traditional rulers and representatives of various security agencies in Kwara State, called for frequent engagement with stakeholders, particularly at the community level on the need to live a harmoniously.

The event was attended by government functionaries, party chieftains, youth organisations, security agencies, traditional rulers and the media.
