Security at the grassroots has been identified as the foundation of sustainable peace and development, with strong emphasis on collaboration between government authorities and community members to effectively tackle emerging threats at the local level.
Guest Speaker at the annual get-together of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria, CILGPAN, Abdulhammid Kparati,
stated this in a lecture on “Grassroots development via resources driven local government system, a panacea for security challenges in Nigeria.”
Mr Kparati noted that insecurity often begins within communities before escalating, stressing that early detection through local vigilance remains one of the most effective tools for crime prevention.
In a remark, the Chairman, State District Society of CILGPAN, Mr Ayantola Malomo, emphasized the importance of community ownership of security matters, noting that safety and development, cannot be left entirely in the hands of government.

Mr Malomo said that the event was organized for members to network and chart a new course for the association.
In an address, the State District Moderator, Dr Adeyanju Adeola, expressed appreciation to every member for their dedication to the ideals of the association and urged to continue to contribute to national development.
In separate goodwill messages, the Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Sheikh Jimoh, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Mrs Dada, and Vice Chancellor, AAT University, Professor Ambali Abdulrauf, emphasized the need for government and community members to bring development to their various local government areas for economic growth and social sustainability.
The event was attended by members from various Federal and State Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the country.
