Ilorin Central Juma’at Mosque Committee, says it will invest in students hostel to sustain the maintenance of the mosque.

The Secretary, Board of Trustees, Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar, disclosed this during the committee’s annual Board of Trustees and stakeholders’ meeting held in Ilorin.

Alhaji Abdul-gafar, who explained that the initiative, marks a shift from donations towards management of the central mosque, disclosed that a letter of intent had been submitted and approved by the University of Ilorin authorities.

He explained that over the years, the upkeep of the iconic religious edifice had largely been depending on donations from members of the Ilorin Emirate community under the guidance of the board chaired by the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore.

While emphasizing that the Ilorin Central Juma’at Mosque was one of the most magnificent religious centres in Nigeria and beyond, Alhaji Abdul-gafar, said the worship centre deserves the kind of maintenance that will preserve its elegance and spiritual ambience.

He also identified epileptic power supply and electricity bills exceeding N1 million monthly as major challenges confronting the day-to-day running of the facility.

He however appealed to stakeholders for continued support, to complement donations with sustainable investment initiatives to secure the Mosque’s future.

Radio Nigeria Harmony FM reports that the proposed construction of 250 bed-space Student Hostel at University of Ilorin Main Campus was valued at 1.1 Billion Naira.
