International Peace Day: Al-Hikmah University Advocates Good Governance
Government at all levels have been tasked to prioritize good governance, equitable distribution of resources and exercise power judiciously in a bid to promote peace in the society.
The Director, Centre for Peace and Security Studies, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, Dr. Abdulazeez Adekola made the call while speaking at a Press Conference organized by the Centre to mark this year’s International Peace Day.
Dr. Adekola charged all tiers of government to improve on their efforts in promoting peace through the provision of essential needs of the people.
He stated that there are different instruments to call for good governance without disrupting the society’s peace , which includes peaceful protest and election.
In an address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor Al-Hikmah University, Prof. Noah Yusuf said peace is crucial in any society as the present economic situation in the country is being compounded by insecurity, which led to shortage and high cost of food items.
Also, the institution Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Sikiru Nurudeen identified financial non – inclusion, bad governance, economy and humanitarian crisis as among causes of crisis, hence the need for good governance.
The event which had in attendance the Olojoku of Ojoku, Oba Abdul-Rasak Afolabi, Kwara State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mohammed Siddiq Abubakar among others featured a Road Walk Campaign on Peace.
