Stakeholders have been urged to prioritize investments in women and girls, with specific focus on family planning and inclusive health research.
The Programme Director, of a civil society group, DevComs, Akin Jimoh made the call in a statement made available to newsmen, on today’s occasion of International Women’s Day, #IWD2024.
Mr Jimoh described this year’s theme as apt as it underscores the urgent need to invest in women as catalysts for progress in all spheres of society.
He stated that the organisation in partnership with The Challenge Initiative, TCI Nigeria, has successfully trained journalists in twenty-one States, to effectively report on issues relating to family planning, reproductive health, and other related women’s rights issues across the country.
Mr Jimoh expressed hope that the trainings would amplify the voices of women and girls and drive positive social change.
In a submission, the Chief of Party of TCI Nigeria, Dr. Taiwo Johnson said access to comprehensive family planning services and inclusive health research is essential for women to make informed decisions about their bodies, health, and future.
Dr Johnson noted that increasing investments in these areas, would empower women to live a more fulfilling lives and contribute to sustainable development.
The TCI Chief of Party urged stakeholders to intensify campaign on women rights at the local, state and national levels.
