The Acting Head of Service of Kwara State, Dr. Mercy Olufunke Shittu, has charged civil servants across the state to uphold the principles of confidentiality, integrity, and discipline in the discharge of their duties.

Dr. Shittu gave the admonition while addressing participants at a one-day induction training organized for officers recruited into the state civil service between 2022 and 2025. The event, held at the Banquet Hall opposite Government House, Ilorin, was organized by the Kwara State Civil Service Commission.

She reminded the newly engaged officers of the importance of confidentiality and anonymity in public service, urging them to familiarize themselves with the civil service dress code to avoid sanctions.

The Acting Head of Service described discipline as the bedrock of a structured and effective civil service, urging the participants to strictly adhere to the public service rules and regulations.

She also called on them to uphold the highest ethical standards, cultivate honesty and transparency, and remember that they are accountable to the public.

Dr. Shittu advised the officers to embrace continuous learning and adopt new technologies and innovative methods that would enhance efficiency and improve service delivery to the people.

She emphasized that their recruitment reflected Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to strengthening the state’s workforce with qualified and dedicated personnel.

According to her, the engagement provides the new officers with an opportunity to contribute their skills and fresh perspectives toward the ongoing reform and repositioning of the civil service for greater productivity.

Declaring the induction training open, the Chairman of the Kwara State Civil Service Commission, Hajia Habibat Anike Yusuf, urged the officers to embrace ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability, describing these as the pillars of effective public service.

Hajia Yusuf tasked the recruits to justify the confidence reposed in them by the state government through professionalism, diligence, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.

She also encouraged them to work collaboratively across departments to achieve collective goals and improve service delivery.

According to her, civil service is a lifelong journey of learning and adaptation, and newly recruited officers must continually seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.

“You have been selected because you demonstrated competence, integrity, and the potential to contribute meaningfully to the development of Kwara State,” Hajia Yusuf added.
