Kwara State Government has clarified reports surrounding the Nigerian Air Force airstrike against criminal hideouts between Kogi and Kwara States.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the government confirmed that the air raid took place on Monday night, September 29, with support from the Department of State Services.
According to the statement, several criminals were reportedly eliminated in the operation.
Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye explained that the Air Force statement announcing the strike was officially released on its WhatsApp platform at 1:54 p.m. yesterday and has not been refuted by the NAF since going viral.
He described arguments over whether the statement appeared on social media handles as unnecessary.
The CPS also clarified concerns about a picture that circulated with the statement, noting that while the NAF did not release the photo itself, the operation was real and confirmed by multiple sources, including the Air Force spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
On allegations that weapons were withdrawn from forest guards, Rafiu Ajakaye said both the DSS and the guards’ leadership had dismissed the claim as false and potentially demoralising.
He urged citizens to remain united, avoid partisan bickering, and focus on defeating criminals threatening peace and security.
