Over 3000 personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, have been deployed across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kwara State ahead of the weekend council election.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Mr Michael Ayoola, the personnel are drawn from the State Command, Area Commands, and Divisional Offices in all 16 LGAs to man various polling units and work with other security agencies to ensure a peaceful election.

Commandant of the NSCDC in Kwara State, Dr. Umar Mohammed, noted that the Corps’ primary responsibility is to create an environment where the local government election can be conducted peacefully, free from violence and intimidation.

He emphasized that officers of the Corps will not tolerate any form of political thuggery, violence, or hooliganism, warning that actions aimed at disrupting the electoral process would be met with decisive action.

According to the statement, special forces, such as Operation Harmony, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Female Squad, will be patrolling the state to enhance security.

Additionally, officers from the Anti-Vandal Unit and the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department, will be deployed to monitor and protect government assets, ensuring they are not targeted by vandals during the election.

The Commandant appealed to political parties, supporters and other citizens to cooperate fully with security agencies and avoid any action that could undermine the peaceful conduct of the election.
