As the Eid-el-Kabir celebration approaches, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,900 officers and men across the state’s 16 local government areas.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Michael Ayoola, the personnel were deployed to strategic areas such as prayer grounds, recreational centers, and other high-traffic locations.

All Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Tactical Units have been directed by the Commandant, Dr. Umar Mohammed, to remain on high alert and sustain proactive engagements with communities.

“Our presence will be visible, coordinated, and reassuring,” the statement reads.

“We have assessed the risk areas, identified critical points, and implemented a multi-layered approach to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.”

The Commandant warned individuals or groups intending to exploit the festive atmosphere to foment trouble, vandalize critical infrastructure, or engage in any unlawful activity, stressing that such actions would be met with swift and decisive consequences in line with the law.

While extending his heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, Commandant Mohammed encouraged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movement or activities.

In another development, the Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspected serial burglar, Habeeb Suleiman, for his alleged involvement in criminal activities in the Warah Oja community, Ilorin, the state capital.

According to the Command, the suspect was apprehended on June 3, 2025, following a distress call from concerned residents who caught him attempting to flee with a generator set.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been a threat to the peace and safety of the community, targeting residential apartments and carting away valuable property.

Following his arrest, a comprehensive search was conducted at his residence, where officers recovered several items suspected to have been stolen in previous burglary operations, including four television sets, one Jincheng motorcycle, four laptops, six phones, two generators, two Mouka foam mattresses, charms, and other valuables.

The suspect has provided a confessional statement and will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

The State Commandant, Dr. Umar Mohammed, assured the public that the Corps will not relent in its efforts to combat crime and criminality across the state, particularly during the festive season.
