Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally fabricated pistol during a joint security operation aimed at tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the suspect, Agboola Olamilekan, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation involving operatives of the command, other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit.
According to the statement, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of the locally made firearm.
It notes that the operation is part of the command’s sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and curb the proliferation of illegal weapons in Kwara State.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, said the command would sustain its offensive against cultism and other violent crimes, stressing that every successful operation reinforces public safety through proactive, intelligence-led policing.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders, while ensuring that all individuals threatening the peace and security of the state are brought to justice.
The police added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members of the criminal network linked to the suspect, as the command continues to implement the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
