Kwara State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in tackling kidnapping and extortion cases in the state.
A statement issued by Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the Command arrested two suspects, Tukur Muhammad and Yahaya Abdullahi, who attempted to extort ₦20 million from a resident of Ajuba Fulani Camp, Ilesha Baruba, by threatening to kidnap him and his family.
The suspects’ modus operandi was to leave their contact details at the victim’s residence, establish communication, and then demand a ransom.
However, their plan was foiled when the victim reported the incident to the police, leading to their arrest.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had been using multiple phone numbers to issue threats and extort money from unsuspecting individuals.
They have since been charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility.
This arrest is a testament to the Kwara State Police Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and extortion cases in the state.
The statement explains that the command has been working tirelessly to address these issues, having recently paraded 28 criminal suspects, including kidnap gangs, armed robbers, and cult members.
