Kwara State Police Command has joined the nationwide commemoration of 70 years of Women in Policing with a 5km walkathon against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and a mental health awareness programme for women officers across the Command.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the week-long celebration began with a fitness walk designed to promote unity, physical wellbeing, and emotional resilience among female personnel.

Activities later continued at the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ilorin, where the Women Police Coordinator, CSP Agene Funmi—represented by CSP Sherifat Akorede—delivered a welcome address emphasizing the importance of health and personal wellbeing in enhancing effective and professional policing.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), ACP Afolabi Kazeem, applauded the invaluable contributions of women officers to the growth and operational efficiency of the Command.

A keynote lecture on Mental Health and Resilience was delivered by ACP Dr. Balogun Abdulquadri, who highlighted the unique challenges faced by women in the Police Force and offered practical strategies to strengthen psychological wellbeing and work–life balance.
The event also featured goodwill messages, an interactive session, and group photographs, symbolizing unity and a shared commitment to improving the welfare of female personnel.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the welfare, mental health, and professional development of all women police officers as Nigeria marks seven decades of women’s contributions to policing.
