Kwara Police Debunk Viral Protest Assault Video, Say Footage Was Manipulated

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media video alleging that protesters were assaulted during a demonstration at the Government House on December 27, 2025, describing the footage as misleading and digitally manipulated.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said investigations revealed that the video was a composite, created by merging scenes from unrelated violent incidents with clips from what was, in reality, a peaceful protest.

According to the police, forensic analysis showed that some of the images and video segments used in the circulating footage were taken from incidents that occurred several months earlier and had no connection whatsoever to the December 27 protest.

The command disclosed that despite efforts to identify and contact the alleged victims shown in the video, including two women prominently featured, no individual has come forward to file a complaint.

It added that no official report of assault was received by the police after the protest.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property and the safeguarding of citizens’ rights, the Kwara State Police Command warned against the deliberate spread of false or misleading information capable of causing public panic or unrest.

The police urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it on social media and advised organisers of public demonstrations to always notify security agencies in advance to allow for proper security arrangements and ensure the safety of all participants.
