The Kwara State Police Command has recovered a stolen vehicle using advanced policing technology, reinforcing its commitment to intelligence-led crime prevention.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the case was reported on April 27, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin.
The vehicle, a Toyota Matrix, had earlier been stolen around 11:00 a.m. from a parking space at Mandate Market in Ilorin.
Police operatives responded promptly by activating an integrated vehicle tracking and immobilization system linked to the car’s security device.
The technology enabled real-time location tracking and the remote shutdown of the engine, facilitating swift recovery.
The vehicle was subsequently traced to the Jebba Expressway axis, where it was found abandoned by the roadside.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects attempted to evade detection by altering the vehicle’s registration number, while the original number plate was recovered nearby.
The recovered vehicle has been secured at the SCID, Ilorin, as investigations continue, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The Command reiterated its resolve to leverage modern technology and intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime and safeguard lives and property across the state.
