Kwara State Police Command has dismissed a false report circulating on social media about an alleged armed robbery incident in Eleyin village.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the report was fabricated by mischief makers to undermine the command’s efforts in combating crime.
On February 9, 2025, at around 6:00 pm, the DPO Oke-Onigbin received a distress call from Ibrahim Sai, reporting an alleged armed robbery. A team of police officers was promptly deployed to the scene, only to discover that the incident was a misunderstanding between a vehicle owner and some youths demanding “owo ilè” (land money) after the vehicle broke down.
The youths, who were unarmed, fled the scene upon sighting the police. No robbery occurred, and the area remains calm.
The Kwara police command urges the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and assures its continued commitment to securing lives and properties of Kwarans.
In case of emergencies, the public is advised to call the Kwara police command hotline at 0812 527 5046 or 0703 206 9501.
