The Management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has confirmed an unfortunate incident that occurred on campus on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.
In a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Halimat Garba, the Polytechnic reported that the incident involved a violent clash between former students suspected to be members of rival cult groups.
The altercation resulted in the death of Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, a former student of the Civil Engineering Department with matriculation number ND/20/CEC/FI/206.
The institution strongly condemned all forms of violence, cultism, and unlawful activities within and around its environment.
It expressed deep regret over the tragic loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
Mrs. Garba stated that the Polytechnic’s security personnel acted swiftly through intelligence gathering, leading to the arrest of several suspects believed to be connected to the incident.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
She added that the Management is cooperating fully with security agencies to ensure justice is served.
According to the statement, normalcy has been restored on campus, with academic and administrative activities continuing without interruption.
The institution assured the public that the campus remains safe for learning and personal development.
The Management reiterated its commitment to maintaining a secure environment through its strengthened security system and urged students, staff, and members of the surrounding community to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities in order to sustain peace and order.
