Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has hosted the 3rd KUS+ International Conference with the theme: “Innovation and Sustainability of Higher Education in a Changing World.”

The opening ceremony, which was held at the Mini Convocation Arena of the university, attracted distinguished scholars, policymakers, and academics from across Nigeria and beyond.

Delivering her welcome address, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee and KWASU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Olubukola Christianah Dada, described the conference as a platform for fostering academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable development in West Africa.

She noted that during the three-day event, the participants would engage in scholarly discourse, share groundbreaking research, and network across disciplines and institutions.

Prof Dada said the University received over 1,200 abstracts covering all 25 sub-themes across every geopolitical zone in Nigeria and beyond, but only 1,089 were accepted.

Prof Dada commended the leadership of the KUS Consortium, particularly the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and Chairman of the KUS Consortium, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, for his drive toward institutional collaboration.

She also appreciated the host Vice Chancellor, Prof Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, for his commitment to internationalization and excellence.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University described the theme of the conference as most appropriate at the present time, when emerging technologies, global dynamics, and shifting educational models are changing the face of higher education.

He noted that the theme also aligned perfectly with the vision and mission of the KUS+ Consortium, which is committed to advancing the university system in Kwara State through collaboration, innovation, and the development of leadership in academia.

He stressed that it is through deliberate initiatives and innovation that institutions can position themselves to lead change and respond to real-time challenges.

The KWASU Vice Chancellor acknowledged the efforts of the Vice Chancellors and leadership of all KUS+ member institutions, adding that their shared commitment to partnership and academics is the strength of the consortium.
