The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has approved the promotion of forty-five academic staff to the professorial cadre, in a move aimed at strengthening teaching, research, and institutional capacity.

The decision was ratified at the Council’s 78th regular meeting held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, according to a statement by the Acting Director of University Relations, Professor Saeedat B. Aliyu.

Of the total number, twenty academics were elevated to the rank of full Professor, while twenty-five attained the position of Associate Professor.

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences produced one new professor, Henry Olawale Sawyerr, a specialist in Environmental Health Toxicology and Risk Management.

In the Faculty of Agriculture, three lecturers were promoted to professorship.

They are Olayinka Jelil Yusuf (Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology), Kayode Ayantoye (Agricultural Development and Policy), and Isaac Ade Afe (Agronomy).

The Faculty of Arts recorded four new professors: Tajudeen Yusuf (Arabic Linguistics), Saeedat Bolajoko Aliyu (Environment and Gender in African Studies), Reuben Kehinde Akano (African Literature and Cultural Studies), and Ayoola Oladunke Aransi (Yoruba Literature, Cultural and Gender Studies).

Six academics from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology were also elevated, with specialisations spanning materials development, sustainable engineering, post-harvest technology, water resources, structural engineering, and electrical power systems.

In the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Shehu Usman Adam (Environmental Economics) and Zekeri Abu (Entrepreneurial Marketing and International Business) were promoted to professorial rank.

Similarly, the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences produced four new professors in Food and Industrial Microbiology, Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, and Mineral Exploration and Geochemistry.

Among those elevated to Associate Professorship is Wasiu Awoyale of the Faculty of Agriculture, specialising in Food Processing and Storage Technology.

The Faculty of Arts also produced five Associate Professors across Yoruba Literature, Drama, Theology, and Biblical Studies, while the Faculty of Education recorded two promotions in Learning Disability and Accounting Education.

In the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, two academics were elevated in Renewable Energy, Fluid Engineering, and Structural Engineering.

The Faculty of Information and Communication Technology produced three Associate Professors in Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, and Information Security.

Additionally, five academics in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences were promoted in General Management, Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Behavioural Economics.

From the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, four lecturers were elevated to Associate Professorship in Analytical Chemistry, Bio-inorganic Chemistry, Numerical Analysis, and Algebra.

The promotions reflect KWASU’s continued commitment to academic excellence and capacity development across its faculties.
