
KWASU To Support Use Of AI In Legal Practices.
Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University Malete Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh says the department of law in the university will place a high priority in support of use of Artificial Intelligence, commonly
referred to as “AI,”.
Professor Lukman stated this today at the maiden Faculty of Law Lecture in honour of Prof Yusuf Olaolu Ali with the topic, ‘Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Lawyer In the Current Legal Regime in Nigeria organised by Faculty of Law, KWASU.
He explained that the topic has dominated intellectual discourse worldwide, which calls for how AI will integrate into the human dominated practice of law and the advocacy skills required of a legal practitioner in Nigeria.
The Guest Lecturer, at the event and the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Professor Abiola Sanni, said robotic lawyers should be seen as complementary tools that enhance human legal professionals, not as a replacement.
Professor Sanni, who a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, called for a robust legal framework to regulate Al development and application, including the establishment of Al Specific Ethical Guidelines.
In a remark, the Dean, Faculty of Law, KWASU, Professor Y. D.U Hambali, said the construction of the faculty of law building of the university is expected to commence soon.
He announced that TETFUND has graciously approved the application of the 2024 Intervention Fund for the construction of the Faculty of Law building, which is set to commence in a few week.
Professor Hambali appealed to the elders in law profession to come to the aid of the faculty through generous donations for the construction of the faculty complex and other offices.
The Dean noted that the institution resolved to celebrate the honouree owing to his contributions to the setting up of its law faculty.
“The decision to honour Professor Olaolu Ali (SAN) with the faculty annual lecture was neither by accident nor a product of an external influence. It was strictly borne out of his unquantifiable contributions towards the establishment and nurturing of our faculty”.
Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, in his goodwill message, appreciated the management of KWASU and his legal colleagues for the honour bestowed on him.
