Kwara State Polytechnic has taken a significant step toward academic advancement with the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Ilorin to commence full-fledged degree programmes.

The historic signing ceremony took place at the Vice Chancellor’s Committee Room of the University of Ilorin Senate Building and was attended by top management officials of both institutions.

Speaking at the event, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, described the partnership as a strategic move to expand access to quality higher education.

He explained that the collaboration would enable students of the Polytechnic to earn recognised university degrees while studying within the institution.

According to him, the MoU aligns with the Polytechnic’s long-term vision to upgrade academic standards, expose students to advanced learning resources, and equip them with globally competitive skills.

Dr. Mohammed noted that the agreement marks a turning point in the history of the institution, assuring that beneficiaries of the programme would receive top-tier training that meets both local and international benchmarks.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, stressed the need to preserve the integrity and reputation of the university.

He noted that graduates of the affiliated programmes would be awarded University of Ilorin certificates and must therefore be found worthy in both character and learning.

Also speaking, the Director of the Centre for Affiliated Institutions, University of Ilorin, Professor Yahya Oyewole Imam, commended the patience, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by both institutions throughout the process.

He expressed optimism that the partnership would deliver sustainable academic benefits and further strengthen higher education delivery in the state.

The degree programmes to be offered under the partnership will initially include Mechanical Engineering, Statistics, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Sociology.

Stakeholders have described the development as a major milestone, expressing confidence that the initiative will further position Kwara State Polytechnic as a growing academic powerhouse in Kwara State and beyond.
