Parents have been urged to serve as positive role models to their children, with the reminder that charity and learning begin at home.
An Islamic scholar, Mallam Aminullah Muhammad, gave the advice during an Iftar get-together organised by Ahlul Ilm Academy, Royal Valley Estate, Ilorin.
Mallam Aminullah described parents as the first teachers in a child’s life, stressing the need for them to lead by example in both words and actions.

He cautioned against the use of abusive language, bullying, and curses in the name of discipline, warning that such measures often do more harm than good and may negatively shape a child’s character.
The scholar also advised parents to be cautious about exposing children under the age of eighteen to electronic gadgets, noting that excessive usage could adversely affect their academic performance and moral development.
He further encouraged fathers to take active roles in raising their children and to build healthy, open relationships with them, rather than becoming figures of fear in the home.
The event featured presentations by students, including recitations from the Glorious Qur’an, Hadith, and lessons on Islamic etiquette, adding spiritual significance to the gathering.
