As the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close, Muslims have been advised to take advantage of Zakatul Fitr to cleanse themselves of their sins and purify their fasting from misdeeds.

A lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Fountain University, Osogbo, Dr. Mubarak Akomonikeu Yusuff, gave the advice in an interview with Harmony FM.

Dr. Yusuff reminded Muslims of the importance of Zakatul Fitr, explaining that it is a way to make the poor families have joyful celebrations on the day of Eidul fitr.

He said according to Islamic injunction, Zakatul Fitr is compulsory for Muslims who can afford it, and it must be paid by the head of the family on behalf of himself and every member of his immediate family and everyone under his care, in the measurement of four muddu tin per person.

He advised them to use food staples like rice, beans, garri, and other grains that the people of the land are accustomed to.

Dr. Yusuff also emphasized that Zakatul Fitr is not just a charity, but a means of seeking forgiveness from Allah and a way of practicing kindness which the outgoing month teaches.
