The Acting Director of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), North Central Zone, Mr. Bello Abdul-Hakeem, has emphasized the crucial role of technical and vocational education in driving Nigeria’s sustainable development.
Mr. Bello made the assertion during a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, as part of his familiarization tour of educational institutions within the North Central region.
In his remarks, the Acting Director reaffirmed NBTE’s commitment to promoting skills acquisition among Nigerian youths, noting that such initiatives remain vital to reducing unemployment and enhancing productivity across the nation.
He commended the Kwara State Polytechnic for maintaining high academic standards and ensuring full accreditation of all its programmes, describing the institution as a model of excellence in technical education.
Mr. Bello urged the Polytechnic’s management to sustain its drive for innovation, quality assurance, and industry relevance in line with NBTE’s vision for the nation’s technical education sector.

Responding, the Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to NBTE’s regulatory framework and standards.
He highlighted the Polytechnic’s mission to produce graduates equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies needed in today’s competitive job market.
“We are committed to ensuring that our students graduate with dual certifications — the National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) alongside the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) certificate,” the Rector stated.
Dr. Abdul Jimoh also sought the NBTE Zonal Office’s support for the accreditation of newly introduced programmes, underscoring the Polytechnic’s determination to remain a leading force in technical and vocational education.
The visit underscores the growing synergy between NBTE and technical institutions in fostering skill-based education aimed at preparing Nigerian youths for national development and global competitiveness.
