NDLEA, KWPOLY Collaborate To Fight Against Drug Abuse.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for collaboration with the Management of the Kwara State Polytechnic in finding solutions to the alarming rate of substance abuse among the youth.

The NDLEA Commandant, Mrs. Fatima Popoola made the call when she led a team of NDLEA officials on a courtesy visit to the institution.

Mrs. Popoola, who disclosed that drug abuse has become a ticking time bomb that requires immediate attention and action from all stakeholders, lauded the Management’s efforts on various steps taken to curb the menace among the students.

She noted that tertiary institutions were identified as vulnerable hotspots for drug trafficking and abuse, stressing that collaboration is crucial to prevent drug cartels from infiltrating schools.

Popoola also advised the management to collaborate with the command in conducting integrity test for prospective candidates with the aim of counseling those who are drug addicts.

Responding, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed disclosed that the well-being and safety of the Polytechnic students is paramount to the Management, giving the assurance that he would work tirelessly with NDLEA to create a hostile environment for drug abusers.

Engr Abdul assured the NDLEA of the Polytechnic’s commitment to implementing drug policies on campus by launching the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) group.

The Rector also pledged to ensure regular sensitization of students on drug abuse.

Highlight of the visit was the decoration of the Rector as WADA ambassador by the commandant.
