Over twenty fish farmers in Kwara State have been trained on best practices in the business for sustainability and improved profit.

The training conducted in Ilorin was facilitated by a non governmental organization, World Initiative for Soy in Human Health, WISHH.

In separate presentations, the trainers, Mr John Domozoro and Mr Sofolabi Sofela, said Nigeria is the second largest producer of fish in Africa and described Aqualculture business as a viable means of livelihood.

Mr Domozoro said that there were lots of potential in Kwara State for fish farmers.

One of the participants, Alhaji Kamaldeen Alasinrin, who said that the training was an eye opener, commended the facilitators for the opportunity given to them.

Alhaji Alasinrin, however appealed to the State Government to provide solar powered pumps to fish farmers to ease their business.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Association of Fish Farmers in Kwara State, Alhaji Nurudeen Tijani, underscored the importance of capacity building to the success of any business and thanked WISHH for the training.

Alhaji Tijani explained that Kwara State has a large number of aquaculturists and stressed the need to improve their scope of doing business.

Participants at the training called for support from government for Nigeria to maintain its stand as the second largest producer of fish in Africa.
