The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially launched its gubernatorial campaign in Kwara State, pledging to prioritise rural development, infrastructure rehabilitation, and improved access to essential amenities across the state.
The flag-off ceremony took place in Laduba, Asa Local Government Area, the hometown of the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Hajia Romoke Zubair.
The event was attended by national and state party leaders, including NNPP National Chairman Dr. Agbo Major, alongside community residents and party supporters.
Addressing the gathering, the NNPP governorship candidate, Prince Adetoyese Omokanye, declared that his campaign would focus directly on rural communities.
“Our campaign will be deliberately taken to rural communities, stressing that the grassroots remain the foundation and driving force of Kwara State,” Omokanye said.
“Beginning our campaign here is a demonstration of our commitment to bringing governance closer to ordinary people, particularly those in communities that have long struggled with inadequate infrastructure and limited access to basic amenities.”
Omokanye assured residents that if elected, his administration would prioritise the rehabilitation and construction of deplorable rural roads, including those in Asa Local Government Area. He stated that this would be achieved through prudent management of state resources and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The candidate also promised to resolve persistent potable water shortages in rural communities, upgrade facilities and staff welfare in the education sector, decentralised access to quality healthcare, and address rising security concerns in the state.
“Rural communities will not be treated as an afterthought in our development agenda,” Omokanye added.
“The progress of Kwara State must be measured by the quality of life of people, particularly those in the rural settlements.”

Following the event in Laduba, the NNPP campaign team proceeded to Afon and Alapa in Asa Local Government Area, holding stakeholder engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth representatives, and women groups to receive local community feedback.
The flag-off culminated in the formal presentation of the party’s campaign flag to Prince Omokanye by Dr. Agbo Major.
“Prince Omokanye is one of NNPP’s greatest assets,” Dr. Major said during the presentation, expressing confidence in the candidate’s capacity to lead the state.
