The National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Thursday staged a roadshow in Ilorin as part of its nationwide sensitization campaign to engage citizens on government programmes, national values and security consciousness.

The exercise focused on promoting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, flood mitigation measures, and discouraging youth from indulging in social vices.

The colourful procession took off from the NOA State Headquarters at the Federal Secretariat and passed through major routes in the city, including Maraba, Muritala Muhammed Way, Sabo-Oke, Offa Road, Fate Road and GRA.

Speaking at Maraba Motor Park, the NOA North Central Zonal Director, Princess Dr. Priscilla Gondoaluor, said the campaign was aimed at fostering citizens’ partnership in national development.

“Security is a collective responsibility,” she said. “While government has recruited more personnel, citizens must also support by discreetly providing useful information to security agencies.”

Dr. Gondoaluor commended ongoing investments in education and infrastructure, urging Nigerians to acknowledge the progress being recorded. She also called on unregistered voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that active participation in elections is crucial for shaping governance.

The Kwara State Director of NOA, Alhaji Dare Abdulganiyu Olurotimi, in his remarks, warned against practices that aggravate flooding, such as blocking waterways and building on riverbanks. He said the agency remained committed to youth development, integrity and the promotion of national values.

He also cautioned parents against the growing trend of elaborate graduation ceremonies for nursery and primary school pupils, describing it as a practice that fuels waywardness among children.

On national symbols, Alhaji Olurotimi condemned the spraying and trampling of the Naira at social functions, saying such acts undermine the country’s identity. “We must protect our national values by embracing patriotism, honesty and integrity,” he said.

NOA officers, supported by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, the WAI Brigade and Sheriff Guards, interacted with residents in local languages and distributed sensitization materials.

The campaign drew the attention of thousands of residents and commuters across Ilorin, providing a platform for dialogue between citizens and the agency.
